Our process

Three stages, no surprises

The price is established before work begins and the land is handed back clear on completion.

Contact us

Contact us by telephone or message, indicating the location of the land and the work required. The location and two photographs are sufficient for an initial assessment.

Assessment and quotation

In the Leiria region we attend the site to assess the area, the gradient and access conditions, at no cost. Beyond that region, the assessment begins from photographs and the location, and a visit is arranged where the scale of the work warrants it. The quotation is always free and entails no obligation.

Execution of the work

Our own crew and our own equipment. The date is agreed in advance and adhered to, and you will be informed should fire risk require postponement.

Legal requirements

What the law requires of you

The questions most frequently put to us, answered in plain terms.

This page is an informative summary and does not constitute legal advice. The rules derive from Decreto-Lei n.º 82/2021 (SGIFR); deadlines and figures may be amended or adjusted by the relevant municipality. We recommend that you always confirm with your local council (Câmara Municipal) or with the ICNF.

The obligation falls on whoever holds the land: the owner, tenant, usufructuary or any other holding entity. It is not a matter for the council, nor for the adjoining owner. In the case of undivided inherited property, the obligation falls on the heirs.

As a rule, 50 metres around buildings on forest land and 10 metres on agricultural land, measured from the external wall. For housing clusters (10 or more buildings), campsites, industrial parks and landfills, the strip is 100 metres. The municipality may adjust these figures by up to ±50% according to fire risk.

The deadline is not fixed in law: it is established annually by ministerial order (despacho). For 2026 it was set at 31 May by Despacho n.º 3440/2026 and subsequently extended nationally until 30 June. We recommend that you always confirm the deadline in force with your local council.

Fines may reach €5,000 for individuals and €25,000 for legal persons, varying according to the nature of the breach. Enforcement falls to the GNR, the PSP, the ICNF, municipal councils, municipal police forces and nature wardens, among other authorities.

The council may serve notice requiring the work to be carried out within a further period. Should that period also elapse, it may proceed with enforced execution: entering the land, arranging for it to be cleared and charging you the expenses, in addition to the applicable fine. The final cost is invariably higher than engaging a contractor beforehand.

The critical period usually runs from 1 July to 30 September. It does not prohibit clearing, but on days of high or extreme fire risk the use of machinery is prohibited, as is burning. We work within the authorised windows and postpone whenever the risk requires it: it would be counterproductive to cause the very fire one seeks to prevent.

It depends on the area, the gradient, the density of the scrub, access conditions for machinery and the destination of the arisings. Flat land cleared two years ago represents a fraction of the cost of scrub left for ten. For that reason we prefer to assess the site before quoting a figure: in the Leiria region the visit is free and, beyond that region, we provide an estimate from photographs before anyone travels. The quotation itself is provided at no cost.

As you prefer. We can mulch on site, leaving the material as ground cover, or carry out loading and full removal. Where there is usable timber or scrap, its value is deducted from the quotation and may cover a significant part of the cost of the work.
